Summary

I am a qualified teacher and personal coach who specialises in students' academic and personal wellbeing. I work with students of all ages, typically through periods of high stress. I am proud of the strong relationships I have with my students, many of whom I have mentored weekly for over 5 years.

Qualifications

  • Post Graduate Certificate: personal coaching (Barefoot Coaching)
  • PGCE (secondary, MFL) (Southampton University)
  • MSc: Applied Exercise for Health (St George's, University of London)
  • CELTA (Beijing CELTA)
  • BA Hons: French and German (University of Nottingham)

Experience

I have 15+ years’ experience working with secondary school students abroad and in the UK as a tutor, wellbeing practitioner and teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (up to and including IB and A-Level). I have worked with a range of learners and my students’ results have always exceeded expectations. However, I am most proud of the number of students who have continued to study languages with me at A-Level/IB and the number who have continued onto university level as a result. This, I believe, is due to the coach approach and primary focus on wellbeing which I employ in my teaching.

Having undertaken extensive training to become a qualified personal coach, I now work on a 1:1 basis and with small groups to strengthen the wellbeing of my clients. I work with all ages but specialise with classroom teachers, senior leaders, students from years 9-13, school leavers and graduates. I support students’ pastoral development, academic performance and future planning, including applications to higher education institutions, work placements or gap year planning.

Before teaching, I ran corporate wellbeing retreats. For many clients, these had a transformative effect on their health and sense of vitality and still influence their lifestyle choices today. I am also a qualified instructor of tennis, yoga (200 YTT, Yoga for Teens), and have diplomas and experience teaching mindfulness and functional movement to adults and children.

More

Being physically, mentally and emotionally well is the foundation for academic, personal and professional development. I have a multidisciplinary approach to my own wellbeing and, wherever possible, model this to my students. I believe that coaching offers the time, space and safety for students to explore their unique selves and their place in their community and wider world. With a passion for experiential learning, natural movement, nature and the human body/mind connection, I employ a gently explorative style to group and individual coaching/mentoring activities. The success of my work relies on the strong connection and safe environment I build with groups and individuals and the commitment from coachees which subsequently follows. Notable outcomes often include:
- increased awareness and emotional agility
- confidence in and use of personal coping strategies
- a stronger understanding of self, others and how we meaningfully fit into our wider community.

1:1 coaching for school students is most successful in short but regular intervals, i.e. 30-minute weekly sessions. School leavers, graduates, adults and group coaching is generally most effective in 60–90-minute sessions.
