Experience

I have been a private tutor for 25 years., running my own business and serving my local area. I successfully transferred my skills online 10 years ago. I specialise in support for classroom studies and exam techniques, providing an alternate, more relaxed environment to the school whereby students can feel comfortable and ask the questions they need to in order to progress with their studies. In the current education situation, the quality of online tuition from schools is varied ,I provide lesons which work closely with what the school delivered , filling in where students find it hard to unpack the information they have been given.I also am available inbetween lessons for questions and support as i neeed as i have found this invaluable to a students's progress. As teacher assessment is this year in integral to grade achievement ,it is important to have access to a student's work should an appeal be necessary. I idenify any goas in learning caused by the disruption the schools and create manageable plans for a student to catch up. I have always saved my students' work, whether it has been homework for our lessons, or homework for school which has proved to be useful when questioning a teacher's predicted grade, or, as now, an assessment of final grade. The classroom environment often does not provide for students to adequately learn new skills, practice them and then use them successfully in exams. I give students the opportunity to ask “how” a mistake is rectified and allow them to ask as many times as they need to in order to understand the process. This is especially true in the case of technical accuracy which is a high marking component of all GCSE English exams. I am also experienced in dealing with students with Dyslexia, Asperger’s, Dyspraxia and autism, finding methods for the individual to reach their potential with individual strategies. Many students who have been diagnosed, and those undiagnosed, are left with the feeling that they cannot achieve like their peers, that they are not smart enough. I aim to show them that this is not the case and adjustments to the way they approach tasks can help them to advance their studies successfully. I have been a French speaker from a young age, having lived with my French grandmother. I have always chosen French as part of my studies and successfully tutor conversation and business French, as well as ks3 through to undergraduate . I also give advice and practical help to degree level students with the organisation and writing of their assignments and dissertations in a variety of disciplines

More

Recent feedback from students has included,“Chris is an exceptionally talented tutor, and has been very encouraging and motivating! She has helped me to calm down and to plan my work before producing something of a high standard! Our lessons are always fun yet productive, and I feel that she allows me to be the best I can be! I’d definitely recommend her, as she is not only extremely intelligent, but also very understanding and friendly!”Bijita K, Parent, and "I’m a year 12 student doing AS English Language CIE.

I came to Ms Chris a day before my paper 1 and about a week before my paper 2. Even on such limited time - she managed to raise my level and give me last minute tips, a ‘quick fix’ as she would call it. Despite the limited time we had, she has evidently raised my level and my confidence in writing too, Ms. Chris IS an excellent English tutor and I testify that she’s one of the best ."

Really supportive and helpful! Helps explain things to me so I understand. I didn't like English before I met Chris and now it is okay. She helps break things down in manageable chunks, as well as allowing me to move around when I need too, which all helps with my ADHD. She also understands how I process things as I also autistic.

Best English tutor also very good at helping you outside the lesson. She picked up on the fact that I have dyslexia in 5 minutes of being in the trial lesson. Now I have the extra support I needed :)
