Calm, encouraging and experienced primary school teacher with over 12 years experience. I can support children both academically and emotionally, tailoring learning to build confidence, resilience and a love of learning.

Qualifications

  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (primary) (University of Chester)
  • Geography and Natural Hazard Management (University of Chester)

Experience

I am a fully qualified Primary School teacher, with 12 years experience working in mainstream schools. I first started teaching in a Primary school in Winsford, Cheshire. The school had been placed in special measures and had been turned into an academy. 3 years later it was rated Good by Ofsted. I then left for another school in Crewe. Here I was Y6 teacher and Geography lead. My family and I then relocated back to Sheffield in 2021 and I joined Bankwood Primary School as Y6 teacher and KS2 Reading lead.

I now work at Killamarsh Junior School, where I have been an intervention teacher and class share Y6 teacher. I also have prior experience in tutoring and spent some time working on a 1:1 basis with a Y7 pupil. We worked on Math, Reading and also building up his confidence and self esteem. This learner has an ADHD diagnosis. As a class teacher, I also have experience supporting learners with Autism, as well as ADHD and social, emotional and mental health needs.

More

I really enjoy working with children on a 1:1 and small group basis. It’s a really great way to unlock a child’s potential, while building a strong and meaningful relationship.
Parent testimonial-
I had involvement with Melissa Taylor about a year ago following my sons struggles after transitioning to secondary school. My son has a diagnosis of both ADHD and ASD and found the transition difficult, resulting in him falling behind and being lower in his academic ability than what he was when he left primary school.
I asked Melissa if she felt this would be something she could support my son with as the impact of this was really affecting his self-esteem. Melissa was amazing and my son really warmed to her. He is often reluctant to do extra learning given his struggles, but Melissa was so kind in nature and understanding that he soon felt at ease, which allowed for the learning to take place.
Melissa geared his learning to his interests and engaged my son in asking him what he would like to do and what his difficulties were. My son felt he learnt a lot and for me the biggest achievement was building my son’s confidence, allowing him not to feel as isolated and behind as he had previously.
I would definitely recommend Melissa and I am even considering her support again. My son is now in Y9 but I do feel that Melissa is able to tailor the learning to differing ages, which has been a big bonus for my son.
Thank you Melissa for all your support.
Debbie
