Experience
I have worked with students in the education system since I first qualified as a teacher in 1997, first as a primary school teacher and more recently as a secondary English specialist of mainstream, SEND and EAL students. As such, I have a proven track record in relation to both educating school-aged students and working with vulnerable students. As a primary school teacher, I taught all year groups from Year 1 through to Year 6 over 22 years. I taught English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Computing, French, Art, Design Technology, RE and PSHE, as well as holding the senior positions of Head of English, Head of Year and SENDCo over the years.
As a secondary teacher, I taught all year groups from Year 7 through to Year 11 English and Society & Ethics over 6 years. I taught mainstream lessons, so I have a thorough knowledge of GCSE exam requirements, and I taught SEND lessons, so I have a thorough knowledge of Functional Skills exam requirements.
The school I most recently worked in is an enhanced provision, so our intake of SEND students was high, being credited with a national award for excellent provision for SEND students. My role extended my experience in this area and I have had in-depth experiences and successes with working with students with mental health difficulties, behavioural difficulties and additional needs; I consider it a privilege to have worked with these students. My own personal ethos is that every child deserves to access and make progress with their learning, regardless of the difficulties they face.
I also taught EAL to a number of students who spoke a variety of languages and had varying degrees of spoken English; I was the EAL Specialist for the school. Another of my roles was Key Worker to three of our most vulnerable students, working closely with them and their parents on a 1:1 basis on all aspects of their school life. I am pleased that these students and their parents all believed I had been successful in building strong relationships with them in order for them to make progress with their learning, regardless of their barriers.
Through my Head of Year role, I had the privilege of working with a full year group of students and their families both in school and in their homes. Again, I had a proven track record of forming strong and positive relationships with these students and their families.
I am very much looking forward to working with you to provide targeted support wherever it is needed and enable your child to be proud of their successes.
