Summary

I'm a humanities and English language expert with over 15 years of teaching experience. I put understanding the motivations and individual challenges of learners first so I can help them achieve the best they can in their own context.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Evidence Informed Practice (Chartered College of Teaching)
  • ISQAM L1 and 2 (HMC)
  • PGCE (Dist.) (University of Buckingham)
  • CELTA (University of Sheffield)
  • Political Theory (Merit) (University of Sheffield)
  • Philosophy (Hons) (King's College London)

Experience

I have over fifteen years of teaching and tutoring in a variety of roles. I spent six years teaching theory of knowledge for the IB and religion, ethics and philosophy (OCR and Edexcel), as well as English language. I spent three of these years as head of department at a secondary school. Before this, I spent five years in Japan and China teaching English. I'm also experienced as a form tutor and academic mentor and supervisor for project-based courses such as the project qualifications (often known as FPQ, HPQ and EPQ). All these roles have involved a lot of small group and one-to-one work and a strong focus on understanding the individual needs and motivations of my learners. I've also taught numerous individual learners everything from essay-writing skills, to pronunciation and philosophy. I've also worked as a professional examiner for OCR A-level religious studies. I also have a huge array of experience with English proficiency exams, such as IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge English exams (KET, PET, etc.).

More

I'm always proud to be recognised as an understanding, patient and kind teacher. I've often helped to improve the confidence of anxious students or helped students recognise their own strengths where others have not. I always have unapologetically high expectations of my students, as I know if we find out what motivates them together and they work hard, they will be able to achieve great things.
