Experience

I am a trained teacher and have taught people of all ages, both in schools and in evening or weekend classes. The main thing that struck me was how much difference it makes to students when I differentiate as much as possible, and vary classes to try to appeal to everyone’s different learning styles. I then decided to move into tutoring because I believe that the best way to differentiate is to individualise learning for each student, and because I have loved the chance I have had so far to make that difference to my evening and weekend students!

More

I aspire to create a new, more engaging, more creative and faster way to learn which requires careful differentiation tactics and highly individualised learning plans. I create these based on each student with the help of a 30-minute free taster session, in which we will discuss their goals, their interests, their reasons for learning and their learning style. I am a big believer in the philosophy of learning to learn, and aim to give my students the tools to achieve this, along with a safe space in which to try out new methods of learning. Lessons as a safe space are a central facet of my teaching philosophy, especially with a focus on the potential to learn from mistakes. I encourage and support my students’ confidence by ensuring clear progression, learning checkpoints to demonstrate what has been learned and regular feedback on smaller improvements. In addition, I have a strong understanding of dyslexia and dyspraxia and years’ worth of strategies that I have developed due to my own dyspraxia. I have already used these strategies to assist colleagues, students and friends in managing their own learning differences.
