Experience
I am a fully qualified English teacher with over ten years of experience teaching IGCSE and A-Level English Language & Literature, as well as GCSE, IB, and entrance exams (11+, 13+, 16+). I have taught across KS3–KS5 in both schools and private tuition, supporting learners of all abilities, from high achievers to those with SEN or who are home-educated.Alongside my exam-preparation work, I have extensive experience teaching home-educated students with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and high anxiety. I have delivered both one-to-one and small group lessons, creating structured programmes that cover full syllabuses for IGCSE and GCSE English Language & Literature. My focus is always on adapting lessons so that students feel supported, engaged, and able to make consistent progress whether they are preparing for exams or following a broader curriculum.
My teaching is exam-focused, with a strong emphasis on past paper analysis, exam techniques, and structured writing skills. I help students to:
• Develop exam strategies, master mark schemes, and improve time management.
• Refine essay structure, argument clarity, and depth of analysis.
• Analyse texts and quotations effectively, exploring themes and writer’s methods.
• Strengthen creative and transactional writing skills, with an emphasis on confidence and flair.
What sets my approach apart is the flexibility to meet each student where they are. For SEN learners, I break tasks into clear, manageable steps, use accessible resources, and build in frequent review points to reinforce learning. For high achievers, I challenge them with ambitious vocabulary, complex texts, and advanced writing techniques.
Exams can be overwhelming, and I enjoy helping students develop not just the academic skills they need, but also the confidence and resilience to perform under pressure. I am known for being thorough, adaptable, and supportive, always tailoring lessons to each student’s strengths and goals. Whether working with home-educated students, SEN learners, or those preparing for competitive exams, my goal is to provide clear, structured guidance that enables every student to reach their potential.
